The Bettys Bay penguin colony, situated at Stony Point, is one of 2 mainland-based penguin colonies
(historically penguins only nested on islands, to keep away from predators), the other being at Simonstown.
Jackass penguins and ostriches are the only flightless bird species found in Africa. Jackass Penguins are
also known as African Penguins.
Driving from Cape Town take the coastal route past Strand and Gordon's Bay towards Bettys Bay, turn right just after the petrol station in Bettys Bay into Porter Drive, then left into Crassula Avenue, right into Wallers Way and then left into the parking lot at Stony Point.
The penguin colony is about 30 minutes from Hermanus.
